DAVID LOWY
Rhythm guitarist David Lowy isn’t your average rock musician by any stretch of the imagination. A champion aerobatic pilot and collector of vintage aeroplanes including Spitfires – yes, real ones, he’s probably one of the humblest guys you could ever meet.
Influenced by four of rock’s cornerstones: AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Woodstock, he played bass in garage bands as an early teen, but this was to be short-lived. Opting instead to study hard and make it in the business world, financial success followed, but always at the back of his mind was music. It was time to get rocking and form a band.
“I guess I’m kind of living my life in reverse because most people who are into rock music do it earlier in life, instead I studied, went to work and have a successful business career, and also spent time learning to fly and becoming an airshow/ stunt pilot but writing and playing music has always been part of my heart and soul”
Bands in Sydney occupied him for a couple of years before a chance meeting with Australian rock legend, Doc Neeson from The Angels in 2003. David toured with Doc Neeson’s “The Angels” until 2005. Doc and David then formed Red Phoenix soon after and went on to record an album of which David co-wrote many tunes, which received considerable airplay in Australia.
Doc unfortunately had some health issues and Red Phoenix was unable to continue. In 2006 David formed MINK and continued to tour and record until 2008 when he left the band.
Most recently Lowy has written, recorded and performed with The Dead Daisies, an Australian-American rock band which he formed with Jon Stevens in 2012 in Sydney, Australia.
The Dead Daisies have shared the stage with the likes of ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Black Star Riders, Jimmy Barnes, Bad Company/ Lynyrd Skynyrd, Whitesnake, KISS and Def Leppard and have toured across Australasia, Europe, United States, Israel, United Kingdom and Cuba. They have been playing sold-out headline shows across the UK and have performed at every major rock festival around the world.
Current band members include John Corabi (Motley Crue), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake), Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy) and Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne).
The Dead Daisies debut album titled “The Dead Daisies” was released on August 9th 2013 and the band’s second album “Revolucion” which was inspired by their ground breaking trip to Cuba, was released in July 2015.
The bands new album “Make Some Noise” recorded in Nashville with Marti Frederiksen will be released globally through SPV on August 5th 2016.
I’ve been using Hughes & Kettner for quite a while now and I think it’s a great product. I’m currently using TubeMeister 36, it has awesome tone and I love its simplicity. It’s very robust and I’ve used it on the road for a couple of years for a heavy touring schedule and it’s never missed a beat. It’s as good as it gets for live performances and it’s outstanding for recording.
